CASE STUDIES:
REPORTING & CONSULTING

SELECTED CASE STUDIES:

AON CORPORATION

In 2009, Aon Corporation re-engaged BrownFlynn to provide strategic consultation on leveraging its 2008 Report to the Community for the North-Central Ohio region. This engagement built upon BrownFlynn’s creative and strategic direction for the development of Aon’s 2007 Report to the Community for the North-Central Ohio region. A world leader in providing risk management services, insurance and reinsurance brokerage and human capital consulting, Aon hired BrownFlynn to help manage the message of its corporate citizenship and community engagement across its Ohio footprint. Acting as project manager, BrownFlynn provided strategic consultation, creative theme generation, design oversight and print production services. Helping to plan, produce and implement the creative concepts developed, BrownFlynn worked with a design partner to deliver a unique and distinct theme consistent with Aon’s brand and current marketing collateral. BrownFlynn also worked with sustainable suppliers to secure environmentally friendly resources to produce the report and investigated rules for including recycled content information. Aon’s 2007 Report to the Community “One World Distinct Communities” was released in March 2008.

FAIRMOUNT MINERALS LTD.
Since 2006, BrownFlynn has partnered with Fairmount Minerals to support several of the mining and mineral company’s sustainable development initiatives. BrownFlynn works with Fairmount Minerals to create an annual stakeholder engagement plan that informs the organization’s short- and long-term sustainability goals. Using the goals and information gleaned through surveys, interviews and community meetings, BrownFlynn prepares Fairmount Minerals’ annual Corporate Social Responsibility report in accordance with the Global Reporting Initiative framework and the UN Global Compact Communication on Progress requirements.

The reports provide a snapshot of Fairmount Minerals’ sustainable development activities in a given year and communicate the company’s social, environmental and economic goals. GLOBAL SPECIALTY CHEMICAL COMPANY
(S&P 400 Midcap)
With over 4 billion (USD) in revenues, this client produces and supplies technologies that improve the quality and performance of products in the global transportation, industrial and consumer markets. In 2007, BrownFlynn guided the company through the process of sustainability reporting, building on the company’s own history of Environmental Health & Safety reporting and creating for the client a reporting framework that highlighted its original corporate philosophy.

The corporate citizenship report outlined key social, environmental and economic impacts of company activities. As part of the reporting process, BrownFlynn recommended that the company state performance goals and provide transparent accounting for progress on key indicators such as carbon footprint, community investment and corporate governance.

After finalizing its first-ever corporate citizenship report with BrownFlynn, this client committed to tracking new goals related to sustainability and publicly reporting again in 2008.

NATIONAL CITY CORPORATION (now part of PNC)
National City Corporation’s brand promise, to always do what’s right for the customer, is a top priority in every department and at every level throughout the corporation.

For more than a decade, BrownFlynn has worked with National City to grow its brand and reputation with customers and the many communities it serves. National City believes that in a strong community, life is more rewarding. BrownFlynn has extensive experience in corporate responsibility reporting for business, having developed annual Community Giving Reports, Volunteer Reports and new market entry collateral to tell that story and ensure the appropriate audiences know the value and excellence of National City's community engagement activities. In addition, BrownFlynn helped shape components of the Company’s award-winning volunteer/mentoring program.

BrownFlynn continues its longstanding relationship with National City, creating the organization’s 2007 Volunteer Report and 2007 Community Giving Report.

THE TIMKEN COMPANY
For a company with a strong history of ethical behavior and good corporate citizenship, developing a Global Citizenship Report meant collecting a variety of data and anecdotes spanning more than 100 years to tell the story of The Timken Company.

With a rich tradition in global citizenship, Timken sought to help its stakeholders understand the ways in which its business and operations contributed to making the world a better place – from improving energy efficiency with its friction management solutions to supporting charitable organizations in communities around the globe. BrownFlynn counseled Timken on message development and transparency in reporting to arrive at a Global Citizenship Report that combines a historical perspective with forward-looking opportunities for the company. On Earth Day 2009, Timken launched the online report, available for download by clicking here.
